That’s me. 27 years old and happy to be born and grown up in Germany. Why am I telling this? Because it is a privilege that should be valued. That will become important later. But first more about me: I am studying chemistry. I love natural sciences. I want to understand how things work and why they are the way they are. But the thing is, I am a perfectionist… And out of this stress, I got on my bike in 2018 and rode a multi-day trip for the first time. And although everything was kind of stupid (bike too small, time pressure…) it grabbed me from that moment on and I learned to love this way of traveling and can’t imagine anything more beautiful. 🚲

After three >3000 km trips through Europe and several evolutionary steps of the equipment and myself, today I am at the point where I can say – Yes, this is it. This is all the material stuff I need to live. And it’s fascinating. It fits into 5 bags, and I can put it on my bike and just go. No matter where. For me the bicycle has become a symbol of freedom. You can ride it on almost any path, it’s slow enough to notice the little things in nature, but still fast enough to cover a considerable distance and this without carbon emission. Spending so much time in nature gives a better understanding of why it is so important and worth protecting.

And here we come full circle. I am happy to live in Germany. I am doing well. But how are others? I want to see for myself how people live on other parts of our planet and what challenges and threats they have to deal with, especially due to climate change, and to draw attention to what responsibility we take for this. That’s why I’m going on the biggest adventure of my life starting in March and I want to invite you along with me.
